Chinese 2

This course is designed to enable students to converse in everyday Chinese and to read simple texts in Chinese (traditional characters). Students are expected to be familiar with the vocabulary and grammar introduced in Chinese 1, 1A, and 1B. However, reviewing what the students have learned in level 1 is one of the objectives of this course. Classroom activities include pronunciation exercises, repetition, role play, small group oral practice, grammatical explanation, character writing exercises, oral presentations, reading, going over homework assignments, language learning games, introducing Chinese culture, celebrating Chinese holidays, frequent quizzes, unit tests, and calligraphy. Homework, mostly written exercises, is assigned daily. By the completion of this course, students should be able to read and write approximately 320 characters, and they should be able to understand and use in context 800 vocabulary expressions.
