"Learning has no end. It is perseverance that counts."

The program introduces students to Mandarin Chinese and to the Chinese culture. The curriculum is designed to teach students to communicate in Mandarin Chinese, and to prepare students for further studies in Chinese at the college level. Concerns move from early attention to pronunciation, intonation, vocabulary, and grammar, through concentrated work in spoken Chinese, to increased emphasis on reading comprehension and the writing of Chinese. Cultural aspects of the learning of this language are emphasized at all levels, among which calligraphy is a regular class activity. The program offers five levels of courses at present. Chinese Level 1 is comprised of three curriculums: Chinese 1A, Chinese 1B, and Chinese 1. There are two curriculums in every level from 2 to 4: Chinese 2, Chinese 2 Honors, Chinese 3, Chinese 3 Honors, Chinese 4, and Chinese 4 Honors. The sequence ends with Chinese 5 Honors, conducted mostly in Chinese.
