Iolani offers five levels of
Latin, beginning with Latin IA in 7th grade, and continuing through
Latin V (AP II). The objectives of the Latin curriculum are: to
develop the ability to read, understand, interpret and translate
Latin literature; to enjoy fine literature in general; to gain an
awareness of the nuances and subtleties of meaning in patterns of
expression of another language; to see life from another point of
view; to comprehend the development and meaning of our culture better
because of an understanding of, and comparison with, that of another
civilization, a culture to which we are greatly indebted for some of
the origins and heritage of western
civilization.
