A comprehensive review of forms, syntax and 800+ words of the vocabulary in Latin I in conjunction with reading exercises in the Labors of Hercules in the first twelve lessons; this review takes from ten to twelve weks. More concentrated reading deals with the stories of Rome from its founding in the eighth century B.C. through the extablishment of the republic in the sixth century and up to the time of Caesar in the first century B.C. Selections from Caesar's Commentaries on the Gallic Wars constitute the major work of the year.
The two-hour final examination consists of sight translation passages from Caesar, syntax, composition and some background material.
