The Easy Life
When I am a college student

I shall stroll across the peaceful, clearly kept campus

in my choice of fashionable, yet comfortable and cheap

white blouse and black slacks.

I shall sip my Starbucks coffee

and nibble a bear claw

after waking up in the late morning.

I shall sneak homework during lectures

or finish up during long breaks

between classes.

I shall drive off campus to eat at

cheap little restaurants during the afternoon.

I shall order pizza and Chinese delivery

when I crave food late at night.

I shall attend parties,

dancing and drinking all night through the early morning

during the weekends.

I shall own the latest phone and laptop

but nothing else,

just enough to get by.

I shall reside in a sorority house suited just for me,

with a roommate or two

at an East Coast college.

I shall visit Hawaii during summer, winter, and spring breaks.

I shall gain life-long relationships,

while learning how to become more independent.

I shall tell fellow college peers to

have fun, party, and don't just study, study, study.

But now I must have clothes

that are paid for with the wallets of my parents.

I must stay at home,

while my friends are able to go to the movies and mall

without an adult supervisor.

I must eat what my parents prepare for me,

or I must eat where I am taken.

I must learn from my elders

and let them yell at me for my behavior.

I must attend long days of classes,

stressing out on homework and projects.

I must wash my clothes and empty the trash.

All until I'm free for college.
