As Time Goes By
Back then before I went to sleep,
I was outside with my mommy,
holding her hand,
counting the stars,
saying goodnight to Mr. Moon.
Now I'm in my room up till 10
IMing.
Back then I would beg my daddy to kick the soccer ball with me.
Now, if he asks I'll tell him, no, too busy.
Back then, at dinner we would talk about our days.
Now, right after dessert I ask to be excused to finish homework.
Back then, on weekends we would always go on family hikes.
Now I'll be at a friend's house with no time for hikes.
Back then, with my friends we would talk about our Barbie's.
Now all we talk about is boys.
Back then in the car with my parents there would be no end to the talking from the backseat.
Now I'm in the front, music blasting from the earphones of my ipod.
Back then wasn't really that long ago.
But it was the time before I was a teenager.
when life was absolutely carefree, with no worries.
I didn't care how I looked,
the kinds of friends I had,
or the types of clothes I wore.
But now .
Now I do.
