Soccer began at Iolani with the l961-62 school year. A team of ninth grade boys played with rubber sneakers and basketballs against Punahou, Kahuku, Radford and Kailua. Today Iolani supports both girls' and boys' soccer teams.

In 1995 the first annual Father Charles Halter Memorial Baseball Tournament was held at Iolani. Father Halter's name is legendary at Iolani. During a 10-year period in the 1950s, the teams which he coached held outstanding winning records in more than one sport: 53-4 in football, 109-11 in basketball, and 77-10 in baseball.
