The faculty members of the Religion Department help students to become familiar with the Bible, to see and evaluate the Judeo-Christian influences on modern society, to develop their self-understanding and personal decision-making skills, and to understand and appreciate Iolani's Christian heritage. As a Christian school, Iolani recognizes its responsiblity to present the Gospel. Beginning in eighth grade, three courses in religion and the Bible are required of all students, and electives are available in grades 10-12. Mandatory chapel attendance is a part of the Iolani tradition. It is up to the individual student to respond to the Christian message.
The chaplain provides instruction for those students who wish to be confirmed in the Episcopal Church. He also serves as a pastoral counselor to students, faculty and staff, and, as requested, provides sacramental and pastoral services.
