Jane Schaffer From West Hills High School in San Diego, where she chairs the
English Department, comes the 1997 Harold Keables Chair Honoree, Jane Schaffer.Jane Schaffer accumulates teaching awards the way most English teachers accumulate red ink stains. She was chosen
Teacher of the Year by the California League of High Schools in 1996, by Grossmont District in 1991, and by San Diego County in 1982. She has been a Christa McAuliffe Fellow and twice a National Endowment for the
Humanities Fellow. The ninth-grade writing she designed for West Hills High won the Golden Bell Award and has been widely adopted in other schools. Ms. Schaffer has trained many hundreds of teachers
in writing institutes and Advanced Placement workshops across the nation. Her articles on teaching English have been published by English Journal, Journal of Teaching Writing, and the College
Board. She has a B.A. in French and English from UCLA and a M.A. in Education from San Diego State University. |
