Becoming a Knight

25th of March, 982

Dear Journal,

Tonight is my first night as a page. I have never been away from my family before. I pray that I might do well with my new duties. Oh, to become a knight? I am only seven and I shall do jobs such as help the maids, serve food to the table, learn good manners, I can't even think of all my jobs expected. When I'm 14 I'll go on to a squire. Then I'll get to help my master in battle. I'll carry his heraldic flag and his weapons. I'll help him back on his horse when he falls. Oh, such honor, I can't wait 'till I'm an adult though, hopefully, my master will dub me a knight and all my hard work will pay off.

Dear Journal,

I am 14 now and have become a squire. Today, I learned how to hold my sword and my shield. I am also being adjusted to wearing the heavy armor. I can't wait 'till I become dubbed, but I mustn't rush myself, for I must be fully trained before I can even let myself be dubbed.

Dear Journal,

My 16th birthday was yesterday and I am pretty sufficient with weapons. I have been a squire for my master in 30 tournaments now. My master brought me to the tournaments because I have been able to defeat every other squire at blunt sword fighting. I am also learning falconry, archery, and I can carry the armor in my sleep. I am sure to become a knight soon.

Dear Journal,

I am 18 now and hope to become a knight. I know everything a knight should know. I can ride a horse, joust a sandbag, and foot-fight my squires easily. I have also mastered falconry, archery, and carry the armor without noticing. He should dub me any day now

Dear Journal,

I am 20 and my master has just dubbed me! I can still remember all of the preparations. I took a bath and washed all of my armor and weapons in the chapel. I wore red and white, red for blood and white for goodness. I walked up to my master with everybody watching. He tapped me on the shoulder with his sword and said, "I dub thee sir knight." We're still celebrating. I can't believe what happened.
