"What is it like being lady of the castle?" I was surprised at my niece's question. Being lady of the castle means hardwork and involves caring for the other people around the manor.
My life is busy, and everyday I am fulfilling my duties as being lady of the castle. I am the head of all the women here. I have a lot of responsibilities. First of all, one of my duties is to care for the sick on my husband, Lord Omar's manor. I must know many remedies on how to treat thy patients. I have been taught about herbal remedies by thy late mother, Lady Tilly. I know how to cure fevers by using basil, marigold petals, or sage, and how to sooth bruises and sprains by making a poultice of ground ivy, marigold, marjoram, and comfrey. Many of the knights come to me when thy physician is away, of caring for the ill who are suffering from this unknown plague called the Black Plague. I treat them, bandage up their wounds, and comfort them by telling them that Lord Omar is proud of the courage they showed in battle. Caring for the sick on my husband's manor is my main duty.
I also have to act as a well-mannered Lady, and be a model for all the young ladies in the castle to look up to. Each day, my ladies and I work on our embroidery carefully, talking about past, recent and upcoming events, such as jousting tournaments. Then, I must go and tend to thy children and help them with thy studies. After going out for a walk in thy garden with thy damsels, I go upstairs to thy room and prepare for thy meal. Thy servants help me get dressed for thy meal in thy finest, silk gown. We then enter thee great hall and have a feast of cabbage, rabbit, cooked pig and peacock, and for dessert, plum furcosse. Delicious! That's thee basic day!
I also have off duties. Sometimes when thy husband and all thy knights are away fighting in thee wars, thy enemies take advantage of their being away, and attack thy castle. Then, thee women would be left to defend the castle using are skill of using longbows and crossbows, to fight off thy enemies. This is thy busy life and duties of being thee lady of thy castle.~
