The Church

The Church was a very high order during the Middle Ages. It was a well-organized administration just like the government. The church consisted of Royal believers, missionaries, monks, and nuns. Royal believers were nobles that believed in Christ. Once a noble became Christian, his whole kingdom was now Christian. Missionaries traveled around preaching the word of God. They tried to convince people that God was real. Monks lived humble lives. They prayed more than five times a day and owned no worldly possessions. They took vows never to marry, only to eat two meals a day, and to live their lives in silence. Some people became monks just so they didn't have to go to war. A life of a monk wasn't just prayer and humbleness. Monks healed the poor, housed the homeless, and educated peasant children. Nuns were also devoted to Christianity. Some ladies became nuns because they decided not to marry by twenty-one. Others became nuns simply because they wanted to show their devotion to Christ.
