Sun Safety Fair

K-3 students participated in a pilot project during the week of March 20th to develop sun safety and awareness. The project was a collaborative effort of the Hawaii Dermatological Society, the Hawaii Ophthalmological Society, the John A. Burns School of Medicine, the Hawaii Skin Cancer Coalition, and the Iolani School Health and Science Departments. With the leadership of Dr. Carla Nip-Sakamoto (parent of Reid Sakamoto '09), K-3 students learned about the dangers of too much sun exposure as well as ways they can protect themselves.

The week culminated in a Sun Safety Fair. Six booths housed games, displays, free handouts and samples of sunscreen. Students and teachers learned a great deal and enjoyed themselves.
